From week 1 to week 9 in ES1102, I have learned the basic grammar rules that I was not familiar with before. Besides, I have learned the structures of reflective essay, summary, reader response and problem solution essay. Learning the techniques of extracting the main points, evaluating, giving own opinions and citing have prepared me for my future assignments. My overall content, structure and context have improved and I am more confident in writing now. I learned how to find extra information to support my points of view and strengthen my essays. However, I am not very satisfied with my work as I still make careless mistakes and unable to express my ideas clearly. As my first semester in NUS is approaching its end, I know I have to work harder to catch up. From week 10 to week 12, I would like to learn how to write coherent and informative sentences. My weakness is that I can only make very simple and basic sentences, which are definitely below the standard which an undergraduate should have. To improve on these, I would need to learn more vocabularies and absorb new information from various sources to be able to evaluate things from different perspectives.
D06 is the first class that I have both visual and audio feedback from my teacher. The audio feedback is really helpful, especially when I do not know how to make changes to improve my work. Comments that can be expressed by visual feedback are limited, therefore I found an audio feedback conveys clearer messages. I really liked the method and I have definitely benefited from it. It will be fantastic if I have audio and written feedback in my other courses too. With the help of the feedback, I can learn and benefit from them. Most of the time, I would make changes to the errors in my essays. Although I might not be confident with my corrections, I would try my best to complete my task. However, in few cases, I did not make the changes because I understood the comments but did not know how to change them. When I was asked to rate my grade for my content, organisation and language on my reader response, I didn't really know how to do it as I think I still have a lot to improve. I don't think I was accurate about the rating but it was at least a guide to myself.
The English module, ES1102 is a pathway that guided me through academic writing. I really appreciate the efforts made by my teacher and the help of my friends.
